The View Above the Clouds

I sat on the plane, staring out the window, snapping pictures all before the plane even started to move. The gentleman sitting next to us and his wife, who was sitting across the aisle, got a good laugh out of my excitement. I was 33 years old at the time, and I looked like a child! It was my first flight and I could not hold back my excitement! As the plane took off, I felt my stomach flip and I let out a LOUD laugh!! The moment was awesome, and I was so grateful to be able to experience something I had always wanted to experience- and to gain a new perspective.

As we made our way towards New York, the “birds eye” view was beautiful! The sun was shining brightly and below us was a thick blanket of clouds that looked like snow. The time finally came for the plane to descend, and as the plane began to lower, our view began to drastically change. The bright shining sun quickly disappeared and our beautiful view turned into a gray, dreary sight.
Although the scene quickly changed and the beautiful sunshine was no longer in view, I knew it was still there and that it was still shining. I knew this to be true, because I  had just been in its’ presence. The sun may have been hidden behind the dark clouds and out of our sight, but that didn’t mean it no longer existed. Instead, I could rejoice in knowing that, although I could not see it, the sun WAS  still there, shining ever so brightly, and therefore hope was present among those dark clouds.
2 Corinthians 5:7-9, reminds us “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Not everything we see in life is beautiful, and it’s a good thing, that as we surrender our lives to Jesus, that He enables us to live our lives by faith. What a beautiful gift of stability that God blesses us with faith even when we do not like what we see.
Dear friends, if your view seems like a dark, thick, cloud, know that the Son is still there! He is still radiant and bright! His love and faithfulness hasn’t changed! Keep walking in faith, regardless of what you see! Keep building a foundation and a perspective that is based on truth, because truth does not change!
